Bank of France Governor François Villeroy has warned that Donald Trump’s embrace of cryptocurrency and financial deregulation is “sowing the seeds” of a crisis.

He argues that U.S.-driven financial upheavals often spill over globally and has criticized Trump’s economic strategy as a reckless “zero-sum game.” The president’s policies, including appointing a “crypto czar” and proposing a Bitcoin reserve and national crypto stockpile, are fueling market speculation. Villeroy called the moves a “tragedy for the American economy."

Meanwhile, Trump’s aggressive tariff threats have rocked Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, and the broader financial landscape is bracing for uncertainty.

While Villeroy insists European regulations provide some stability, he warns that America’s crypto pivot could trigger fresh economic turbulence and that no country is safe from the waves.
